Robert Maddox BSc (Hons), ATT, CTA, VAT Manager, Grant Thornton

Robert is a Tax Manager, having specialised in VAT for the last 11 years.

Robert has worked within the Grant Thornton (formerly RSM Robson Rhodes) VAT department for the last four years. During this period he has specialised in advising the Automotive Retail sector on both planning and compliance matters. His clients include some of the largest dealership groups in the UK.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Robert was the in-house Indirect Taxes Manager for the MG Rover group. His role for MG Rover involved the preparation of all the VAT returns for the group, and day-to-day liaison with HM Revenue & Customs.
Prior to joining MG Rover, Robert worked for KPMG, where he gained his tax qualifications. Whilst at KPMG he spent much of his time advising clients in the retail and engineering sectors.

Andy Morgan BSc (Hons), VAT Manager, Grant Thornton

Andy is a Tax Advisor specialising in VAT.

Having joined Grant Thornton's VAT Team in Birmingham just over eighteen months ago, Andy is an experienced manager currently working to a variety of clients in various business sectors. As part of his present role Andy is the principal VAT contact for a dozen housing associations/groups mainly based around the Midlands region.

His previous role at a big 4 firm was as part of the Central and Local Government VAT Group leading a team where he was responsible for delivering consultancy and compliance services to in excess of 30 NHS Trusts, and with negotiating with HMRC on behalf of these clients where required.

Prior to that, Andy worked in the VAT sector of the Financial Services team in London which included "Land and Property" and "Partial Exemption" as part of its remit. This included his advising clients on the VAT complexities surrounding exempt and partly exempt transactions as well as various VAT property and construction issues.

Prior to joining the private sector Andy worked for HMRC for over 10 years where his experience also included work in the VAT Policy Directorate of Customs Headquarters, writing guidance and providing policy advice on matters affecting partly exempt business; primarily in the Financial Services business sector.

Having worked in VAT for over 20 years, for both external advisors and HMRC, Andy has a wealth of VAT experience upon which to draw.
