CIPFA is one of the leading professional accountancy bodies in the UK and the only one which specialises in the public sector. It is responsible for the education and training of professional accountants and for their regulation through the setting and monitoring of professional standards. Uniquely among the professional accountancy bodies in the UK, CIPFA has responsibility for setting accounting standards for a significant part of the economy, namely local government.

The Midlands Region of CIPFA stretches from the Welsh borders to the East Coast, taking in shire counties and the West Midlands. There are 2,900 CIPFA members living and working within the Region. We have an active Regional Council, a varied programme of events and seminars across the Region, and a very enthusiastic and fast-growing Students Society. Local events in the West Midlands are regularly arranged by the Western Area Executive, which is one of four local areas within the Midlands Region.
Our strategic direction focusses on three guiding principles - enhancing the eminence of the Region and CIPFA, responding to the diversity agenda in public services, and adding value to our members. Three themed work areas aim to deliver these principles - a robust regional CPD strategy, improved communication with our members, and maximising our profile within the public services and the profession.
